UPDATE - August 3, 2020
Your patience and understanding is appreciated during this challenging time related to high school and middle school sports in Highline. Please realize that the information shared in this message is subject to change.
Here are the latest updates from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Highline Athletics due to the COVID-19 pandemic:
Middle School Sports
Middle school sports seasons 1 and 2 are cancelled. Decisions about middle school sports will be re-visited for the spring semester.
High School Sports
High school sports registration remains closed. It was previously scheduled to open today, August 3. Registrations for Summer 2020 out-of-season practices are now void. We will inform you when it becomes possible to open sports registration.
Athletics registration dates will open at least four weeks prior to any permissible WIAA sport-related activity.
WIAA modified the 2020-21 sports season calendar to create four shortened seasons and to move moderate- and high-risk team sports, from fall to spring. WIAA took further actions:
- Created an alternate season for cross country in season 1
- Moved girls swimming/diving and competitive cheer to season 3
- Approved football to begin practices on February 17
- Approved season 2 sports to begin pre-competition practices December 28
Highline Public Schools will not be participating in season 1. (All season 1 sports now have an alternate season in the spring.)
The first practice date for season 2, is December 28, 2020. Due to shortened seasons, practices and contests will likely be scheduled on Saturdays and during traditional break periods such as Presidents Day and Spring Break.
Regular season practice and competition for season 4 extends until June 19, 2021.
We will continue to update you on athletics news and decisions.

UPDATE - July 9, 2020
We want to share an update with you about fall athletic programming. This week, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announced a delay in the start of the high school fall athletic season.
Football is scheduled to start September 5. All other fall sports will begin September 7. This includes girls soccer, cross country, cheer, dance, drill, boys tennis, golf, girls swim and volleyball. These dates are subject to change based on COVID-19. We are working closely with the WIAA and other districts in our league to monitor the impact of the pandemic.
WIAA is expected to provide another update on fall athletics by the end of July. We will continue to keep you informed.
