Give Input on Biology and Health Materials

We are adopting new materials for biology and health--and we want your input!

Your voice is important as we select new instructional materials for high school biology and health for grades K-2 and 6-12. You are invited to an open house to learn more about the instructional materials under consideration.

Tuesday, March 12
4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Central Administration Building - North: North Classroom
15675 Ambaum Blvd. SW
Burien, WA 98166

Adoption committee members will share instructional materials being considered. You can ask questions and provide feedback. Your input will inform the committee’s recommendation to the school board this spring. Materials will be introduced in the 2024-25 school year.

Spanish interpretation will be available. Please contact 206-631-3003 by Friday, March 8, if additional languages are needed.

Health Materials

We piloted curriculums for the new health program for grades K-2 and 6-12. Both programs support the Washington State Health Learning Standards and have digital resources in English and Spanish available on our website.

The health curriculum will cover wellness, safety, nutrition, life skills, substance use and abuse. Sexual Health is not covered in the curriculum adoption; Highline Public Schools uses the King County FLASH curriculum for grades 4-12.

Biology Materials

We piloted two programs for new high school biology instructional materials: OpenSciEd Biology and BSCS: Understanding for Life. We plan to adopt one of these programs as our official high school biology curriculum. Both programs have print and online resources available in English and Spanish.
