September 14, 2020 Updates:
Back to School Webinar
Chinook hosted two live webinars this past week. If you weren’t able to join don’t worry! Check out a recording of it HERE.
Dear Students and families -
It has been such a pleasure meeting you and your middle school students over the last several weeks and during these first three days. Family meetings were a great way to start the year and make connections. Attendance to classes has been so strong already! Thank you for your support and planning to ensure your child is ready and able participate every day.
Using technology during distance learning is new for everyone. We anticipated and expected challenges this first week. Many of you were able to contact our office to get help with technology needs and, for most, we were able to quickly resolve problems.
At the end of September or early October, we will provide all 6th graders with a new Chromebook. This will help update any outdated devices. More details regarding distribution and exchanging devices will be shared soon. The addition of new Chromebooks will also help 7th and 8th graders receive newer devices as needed.
While technology is such an important tool for the 21st century it also comes with challenges. Several of our classes have had the unfortunate experience of “ Zoom Bombing.” Zoom Bombing is the term for when individuals enter a Zoom meeting uninvited and often cause disruptions. We are tightening security with Zoom links to class to prevent any uninvited “Zoom Bombing” as a result.
Students will receive updated instructions on Monday in Advisory for how to connect to their Zoom classrooms.
IMPORTANT: Moving forward, all students will be required to enter their Zoom class with their full name - First and Last. Students will start class in the “waiting room” and be admitted only if their first and last name is shown. We encourage students to add a recent picture to their profile as another form of security and identification. Teachers will share passwords to each class. Students should post these in a place near their computer for quick and easy reference.
Thank you in advance for your help with these requirements. Safety during learning is a top priority! If you have questions please contact Chinook Staff at 206.631.5700.
